How to Test & Debug Regular Expressions

  1. 1

Enter your regular expression pattern in the pattern input box without enclosing slashes.

  2. 2

    Toggle regex flags (g = Global, i = Case-Insensitive, m = Multiline, s = DotAll, u = Unicode) as needed.

  3. 3

Type or paste test data into the test string editor to see real-time highlighted matches.

  4. 4

Inspect the Capture Groups breakdown table and test string substitution in the Replace Simulator.

❓

Regular Expressions (RegEx) FAQ

What do the regex flags (g, i, m, s, u) mean?

'g' finds all matches rather than stopping at the first; 'i' ignores letter casing; 'm' treats start (^) and end ($) per line; 's' allows dot (.) to match newlines; 'u' enables full Unicode support.

How do capture groups work in regex substitution?

Parentheses (pattern) define capture groups that can be referenced in replacements as $1, $2, etc., allowing precise reformatting of matched strings.
